Michau Warriors: A Short-Lived Dream

Table of Contents

Michau Warriors Football Club might not be as widely remembered as South African football giants, but for a brief moment in the early 2000s, they proudly flew the flag for the Eastern Cape in the Premier Soccer League (PSL). Based in Uitenhage and later Port Elizabeth, the club made headlines when they reached the PSL in the 2001–02 season. Financial Strain and Disciplinary Drama

The club’s time in the PSL was marred by financial instability and legal turmoil. Owner Michau Huisamen was arrested in the United Kingdom on charges related to drug smuggling using his private jet — this created deep uncertainty around club operations.

Compounding their problems, a drawn match between AmaZulu and Umtata Bush Bucks turned into a disciplinary storm when AmaZulu was controversially awarded two points after Bush Bucks allegedly fielded players without ID cards. These two points kept AmaZulu in the PSL and relegated Michau Warriors. The Warriors’ appeal was dismissed by SAFA’s disciplinary board.
