HM Pitje Stadium

The HM Pitje Stadium was situated in the township of Mamelodi, to the east of Pretoria (Tshwane).

​HM Pitje Stadium was named after Hezekiah Mothibe Pitje who was born in Phokwane (Limpopo Province). HM Pitje became famous as a businessman, politician and philanthropist. He became the first mayor of Mamelodi in 1969.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Mamelodi Sundowns used HM Pitje Stadium as their home ground. Now, Mamelodi Sundowns plays its home games at Loftus Stadium and at Lucas ‘Materpieces’ Moripe Stadium.

The HM Pitje Stadium began to dilapidate rapidly and in 2023 it was finally demolished. Check out the video of HM Pitje being demolished.
