MAMELODI Sundowns Continue To Remake History

Table of Contents

On Wednesday, 14 May 2025, Mamelodi Sundowns continued their league-winning streak with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Chippa United, clinching their eighth consecutive Premier Soccer League (PSL) title with one match remaining. This brings to 15, the total number of PSL titles won by Bafana Ba Style, solidifying their position as the most successful and most dominant football club in the history of South African football.

The Brazilians have amassed 70 points in just 27 matches this season, scoring 63 goals and conceding only 13. This performance surpasses their previous season, where they scored 52 goals in 30 matches and conceded 11, finishing with 73 points. Currently, they hold a commanding 14-point lead over second-placed Orlando Pirates, who have accumulated 56 points.

The second-most successful clubs in the PSL are Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, both with four league titles to their names. Mamelodi Sundowns have now become the first club in South African football history to reach 15 league titles and the first to win the league eight times in a row. They continue to break their own records.

The only other team to have won the league in consecutive seasons is SuperSport United, who conquered the PSL 3 times in a row from 2007–08 to 2009–10. Notably, that same record was set by selfsame Mamelodi Sundowns when they won the then Castle Premier Soccer League three times in a row from 1998 to 2000. This was in the league’s earliest days.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ final league match will be against Magesi on 18 May. With the title already secured, this match will serve as a mere formality as they celebrate another historic season.

Congratulations to Masandawana. Ka Bo Yellow!
