Early Life and Passion for Football

Pitsi Vincent Matlou, better known by his nickname ‘Vino Snap’, is a passionate, young South African football photo-journalist celebrated for his grassroots engagement, sharp photography and digital presence. Born in Limpopo but raised in the Vaal, Vino Snap was brought up in an environment that loved the game. He developed a deep passion for football early on, particularly within township and amateur leagues.

He holds a Bachelors Degree in Education from the University of the North West. He says this is why he is passionate about youth development. His work in photography is dedicated towards developing young talent.

Career in Football and Media

Vino Snap gained recognition in the South African football community for his unique ability to spotlight underrepresented teams, players, and moments, especially in the Kasi (township) football space. Through videos, commentary, and storytelling, he has become a content creator and community ambassador for the game at local level. Some of the young talent he discovered at local football games went on to become big, celebrated players. One of those players is Relebohile Mofokeng of Orlando Pirates.

Whether on the sidelines of a dusty pitch or at national youth tournaments, Vino Snap is known for his lively presence, capturing football’s heartbeat at grassroots level and turning everyday moments into memorable digital content.

Contribution to Grassroots Football

Pitsi Vincent Matlou has become a recognizable figure in township tournaments, helping elevate them to new audiences through social media and word of mouth. His engaging content has given exposure to local football talent and brought attention to the need for greater investment in grassroots development. He is not only celebrated by players and fans (known as the VinoSnap Community), they also trust him and often display messages targeted at him from the grandstands, which he never fails to capture.

What sets Vino apart is his dedication to his craft. He reveals that on big match days, he arrives at the stadium at around 10am when the game itself might be at 15:00. He says he does this to ensure that he studies the field and the different angles so that he can start visualizing the game before it takes place. He envisions how he is going to set up to ensure that he captures the most important moments of the event. “By the time everyone arrives at the stadium, the game is already finished in my mind”, he reveals.

These amazing snaps that Vino takes are the reason he has been nicknamed The Eye of God, for his incredible ability to capture even the most obscure moments. Check this picture below where he captured a message that the Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Rhulani Mokwena had written for one of his players during the match.

The above picture caused an uproar in football circles and went viral on social media. But things seemed to settle for Vino Snap when he received an email from the PSL that the organization was proud of the work he was doing. The PSL chairman, Dr. Irvin Khoza, congratulated him and praised him for his work that ensured that this league is about creating conversations.

Legacy and Influence

Through his charisma, deep football knowledge and strong connection with local communities, Vino Snap has carved a niche as both an influencer and a voice for football outside the mainstream. He is widely respected for staying true to his roots and using his platform to uplift others.

In 2024, he won an award for SASMA photographer of the year. In his spare time, Vino Snap finds time to do other fun activities, such as playing golf:
